When I lived there in 2004, my answer was, “not much.” The buses didn’t run, taxis were scarce, and most of the city shut itself down. We spent evenings on our porch with neighbors.
Those nights spent on our porch were different than any classroom I had known. Learning became experiential, relational. We shared our lives and stories. I learned Spanish in conversation.
And it was about more than learning Spanish. Those conversations shaped the person I am today. That’s what TalkAbroad is meant to do.
We connect learners with the stories and experiences of real people by creating a safe space for conversation. Here, learning happens in community.
Since 2010, we’ve partnered with more than 500 universities and hosted conversations in 9 languages. We focus on impact sourcing and career development for our conversation partners. We believe people and cultures have value, and we build relationships characterized by respect, commitment, and cultural sensitivity. Join us. Let's have a conversation.
